Well, not technically the first snowfall, as we had one a month ago, but didn't really stick. This is really the first snowfall to stick in e-town. About one to two inches woth of the fluffy white.

This is probably the beginning of our Winter. Thankfully it didn't start until after Halloween.

Yup.. we sure are a buncha geeks at work. A bunch of my compadres dressed up as this years group costume of choice, Team Fortress 2. I had around 10-15 mins to do a quick photo op, so we put together some quick scenarios. Our competition, Pandemic, EA LA, NCSoft, Blizzard, and other game companies also did likewise. My buddy at Pixar, also said they had some group costumes at ILM.

My daughter has been cultivating a fear of our neighbour across the street.

He's a co-worker of mine, and a very nice fella, but he tends to freak out our little one. He likes to do Dr. Claw impersonations, and has a great mental escapee look. It doesn't help that he's 7 foot 3, and is a touch grabby with toddler toys. Take a look and you be the judge.

Yes, he does have kids of his own FYI.

I've been trying a few demos of games in the last little while. So far there have been some impressive, and some not so impressive ones. Portal which is bundled with the venerable Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Episode 2 from Half Life is tops in terms of dollar value. I'd definitely recommend the Orange Box as a BUY! Other ones that look good, Bioshock has great production value, and an engaging story in a different atmosphere. Great spooky audio, so may make a good halloween purchase. Also released on Halloween this year is Hellgate London. While I've been waiting for this one for quite some time, I'm not entirely sure if I'll pick it up. It's still quite fun (the demo) but not as much fun as I'd have thought. It comes from the makers of Diablo I and II, in a post apocolyptic world. Still, great for a shootemup FPS for sure. The last one I've tried recently is World in Conflict. A short, but very satisfying RTS game, which provided me with as much fun as Company of Heroes . All in all, there's plenty here to sap your pocketbook, so keep on gaming!

What the heck have we been doing lately? Cleaning up, moving stuff around, taking pictures, sorting out karaoke, and generally raising a little one!

OH YEAH BABY! We finally have our keys! WOOT! We walked into our new home, and felt... absolutely nothing. I guess after a year and a half of building, visiting the builders on a weekly basis it was a bit anti-climactic. Well.. I guess I did feel a bit excited, but it won't really sink in until we have our 150 boxes of shit and beds, bookshelves, furniture etc in.

Countdown to new house!

Well, the countdown to the new house has started! Crazy packing, and can you belive it, 125 fucking boxes so far! We haven't even finished! HOLY CRAP ON A STICK! Yeah, gonna be mad crazy, but thanks to the help of many of our friends who could watch our little one, and people like Erl and Ad who sent us stuff needed for the house, we're pretty on track. Regardless, it's insane, but in a couple of weeks, we'll be in the new place! WOOT!

Yup... in the spirit of "Kindergarten Cop" and "16 Candles" for some reason Arwen has learnt the word Penis. I was wearing something rather commandoish, so here's how the conversation went.

She looked crotchward at daddy and said... "Penis".

"Does Mommy have a penis"? I enquired...
A thoughtful pause... then "No". Quite emphatically I might add.

I asked "Does Arwen have a Penis"?
She rips open her diaper, peers inside, then after a moment's hesitation exclaims, "No".

"Does Daddy have a penis"? I asked.
Arwen at that point lifts open my garment and says... "There it is"!

I am SERIOUSLY Considering this diet.... errr. training Regimen. Many of you websavvy may have seen this before, but when I first read it I thought. Hmm.. what a great way to combine goals and gaming! This fella didn't do the Subway thing, didn't do the dangerous atkins thing, but instead picked up the latest Nintendo Console. It sure as fuck doesn't include standing in a freezer and pummeling the vivisected side of a cow. I am very much considering this.

It's a me.. Mario.. well.. actually Arwen.

We got a tiny bit into the halloween spirit this year, and dressed up our little one as the world's favourite Italian Plumber. Maybe that's appropriate seeing as the Nintendo Wii is coming out next month. => Was a little costume that we slapped together quickly, so don't get on my case... we'll do better next year. Honestly!

Ghosts, Ghouls n Goblins

This Friday we had a chance to do a 'ghostly walk in old strathcona'. It was a recounting of murder, hauntings, and history. A lot of the town was at it's most colourful, history wise, in the earlier part of the 20th century, and the tales reflected that. Stories of gruesome murders, horrific accidents, and premature entombments were the norm, or at least seemed like it according to our ghastly hostess.
